Man City news - Dzeko happy with challenge, Nasri set to finalise move, Adebayor move in limbo

By Luke Ricketts

Wednesday 17 August 2011

Dzeko happy with challenge.

Edin Dzeko has told the Telegraph the arrival of Sergio Aguero is just the challenger he needs to ensure he keeps his place in Roberto Mancini’s starting XI. Dzeko has struggled to replicate the goal scoring form he demonstrated at Wolfsburg, after signing for City in the January transfer window for £27m. The Bosnian is now convinced the added competition in the forward line will encourage him to play well so he can begin to form a formidable partnership with the Argentine. Dzeko has his work cut out if he is to keep a place in the starting line-up, with Mario Balotelli and Carlos Tevez to also contend with.

Nasri set to finalise move.

Samir Nasri’s £23m transfer to Man City is expected to be completed by the weekend with personal terms already provisionally agreed on, according to reports in the Telegraph. Arsenal have already lost Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona and look to be losing another of their prize assets this week in the 24-year-old Frenchman whose contract with the Gunners is due to expire next summer. Meanwhile Nasri has rubbished claims of offending Arsenal fans on the social networking site Facebook, on which he had supposedly claimed he would leave the club “angry and bitter.” The player was subjected to abuse from Arsenal fans at St. James’ Park on Saturday after calling them “disrespectful” on Twitter.

Adebayor move in limbo.

Harry Redknapp has told BBC Sport that he does not know what stage transfer talks are at for Man City’s unwanted striker Emmanuel Adebayor. The Togo international is held in high regard by the Tottenham manager but said earlier this week he would be unwilling to meet the player’s expensive wage bill that he currently enjoys with City. Redknapp confirmed his chairman Daniel Levy is in negotiations with the Citizens about signing the player but cannot confirm anything for certain. Adebayor received a hostile reception from the Spurs fans when he featured and scored for Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarter finals but has said this will not deter him from joining the club.
