Man City news - Nasri completes City move, Adebayor in Spurs talks, Tough Champions draw

By Luke Ricketts

Wednesday 24 August 2011

Nasri completes City move.

Samir Nasri has completed his move to Manchester City for £24 million, putting pen to paper on a five year contract worth £185,000 a week. The Frenchman was a surprise feature in Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday, casting doubt as to whether an agreement would be finalised before the end of the month, yet Nasri is now fully expected to be in Roberto Mancini’s squad for Sunday’s Premier League encounter against Tottenham. The deal threatened to collapse earlier in the week when Arsene Wenger hinted he would include Nasri in his team to face Udinese on Wednesday, rendering him useless to Mancini who did not want him cup-tied. According to the Mail, Nasri is City’s final significant signing before the transfer window closes on 31 August.

Adebayor in Spurs talks.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp believes Emmanuel Adebayor would make an excellent addition to his squad if a loan offer with Man City can be agreed. The Togo international has been unpopular at the Etihad stadium since the appointment of Roberto Mancini in 2009 and should not expect to walk straight into the starting XI at Spurs either with the likes of Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch and Roman Pavlyuchenko all tussling for the same position. Spurs’ chairman Daniel Levy has been in talks with City for some time and are thought to be nearing a settlement, sources of Skysports have revealed.

Tough Champions draw.

Manchester City could be potentially put into a Champions League group with Barcelona, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund when the draw is made in Monaco tomorrow. The Citizens ideal outcome would be to face the likes of Porto, Marseille and APOEL of Cyprus but may be drawn against the crème de la crème of Europe due to the system used for the draw, the Independent understands. This may be City’s first taste of the Champions League but their spending spree this summer has allowed them to employ the likes of Samir Nasri, Sergio Aguero and Gael Cichy who all have experience of Europe’s most prestigious football competition.
