Man City news - Tevez resigned to staying, Stoke in for Bellamy, QPR near SWP deal

By Luke Ricketts

Wednesday 31 August 2011

Tevez resigned to staying.

Carlos Tevez has resigned to the fact he will be staying with Manchester City for the foreseeable future with the transfer window closing later this evening. Tevez hoped to leave the Blues this summer in order to be closer to his family in Argentina, though a source close to the striker has told BBC Sport it is now impossible for him to leave with only hours remaining. The 27-year-old came close to securing a move back to South America earlier in the summer, when Brazilian club Corinthians made a bid for the player but negotiations could not be tied up before the closing of the international transfer window. It is understood Inter Milan also made a bid for Tevez but it was way off City’s substantial asking price.

Stoke in for Bellamy.

Sky Sports have revealed that Stoke City are the latest team to show last-minute interest in Craig Bellamy, with QPR and Liverpool already in the race to sign the Welsh striker on the final day of the summer transfer window. It is anticipated that Bellamy will leave City this summer with little likelihood of first team football on offer at the Etihad stadium, with the likes of Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero ahead of him in the pecking order. The 32-year-old has begun discussing formalities with QPR, though Tony Pulis is still convinced Stoke he has a realistic chance of enticing the striker to the Britannia stadium.

QPR near SWP deal.

QPR are thought to be in the closing stages of signing Man City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips according to The Sun. Wright-Phillips has turned away offers from Stoke, Wigan and Bolton and is believed to be favouring a move to Loftus Road where manager Neil Warnock has been granted spending power by new majority share holder Tony Fernandes. The 29-year-old is expected to cost £6.5 million but will bring much needed Premier League experience to the North London club, who return to the top flight after a 15 year absence.
