Arsenal news - Arteta talks on Gunners move, Lyon rejected Gourcuff approach, Bendtner vows Arsenal exit

By Luke Ricketts

Friday 02 September 2011

Arteta talks on Gunners move.

Arsenal’s deadline day signing Mikel Arteta is sure he can adapt quickly to the change of scenery at the Emirates and will do all he can to end the Gunners six year drought without silverware.

The 29-year-old has reportedly taken a pay cut to join Arsenal, fearing further complications would delay the transfer worth £10 million. Manager Arsene Wenger was dormant for much of the transfer window, despite having the profits from the sale of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri to dabble with, but eventually employed the services of the Spaniard from Everton with only hours remaining.

Speaking to the Independent Arteta has been most modest when asked whether he can fill the void left by Fabregas but beliefs he can bring something good to the club.

“Fabregas has been a terrific player, one of the best in the Premier League and [replacing him] is a big ask. What I want to do is start helping the team, start showing my abilities and see where we go from there.”

Lyon rejected Gourcuff approach.

French club Lyon have revealed they were approached by Arsenal about loaning midfielder Yoann Gourcuff before they had signed Mikel Arteta and Yossi Benayoun on deadline day. Manchester United were also watching the 25-year-old who admitted in February he was no longer happy in Ligue One. Arsenal scout Gilles Grimandi approached the French club to propose a loan deal for the player, though Lyon stayed true to their word and were not open to discuss any transfer, with four years left on his contract.

Bendtner vows Arsenal exit.

Nicklas Bendtner has told the Mail he will never play for Arsenal again after criticising the way he has been treated by the London club.

The Dane joined Sunderland on a season long loan over the summer but has no desire of ever returning to the Emirates, saying he “will never play for them again.” Despite branding himself as one of the best strikers in the world, Bendtner has only scored 43 times for Arsenal in six years which might explain Arsene Wenger’s willingness to loan him all season. The 23-year-old would be expected to return to Arsenal at the end of the campaign but has said he is more inclined to find a new club after claiming he was never given a fair chance to show what he is capable of.
