Man City news - Tevez health scare, No Messi bid, Toure feeling lucky

By Luke Ricketts

Monday 05 September 2011

Tevez health scare.

Carlos Tevez has confessed to the People that he suffered from an eating disorder over the summer after becoming depressed about his inability to see his family. Tevez was invaluable to the Blues’ third place finish last season but admitted at the start of summer he had no desire to remain with the club. The Argentine came close to moving during the transfer period, first to Brazilian club Corinthians and then to Inter Milan, however, no deal could be negotiated and the striker began to binge on food to combat his despair. Tevez’s family has since moved to the North West of England to bring some kind of resolve to the troubled player and he now knows he must grin and bear his situation and fight for a place back in Roberto Mancini’s starting XI.

No Messi bid.

FC Barcelona’s vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu has denied rumours that Manchester City attempted to sign Lionel Messi over the summer. Gossip columns in Spain let on that City made an offer of €50 million plus Mario Balotelli for the Argentine superstar but the bid was rejected by the Catalan club. Speaking to Spanish daily Sport, Bartomeu rubbished any such offer was made: “Our policy is not to sell our stars but on this subject it certainly did not [happen].”

Toure feeling lucky.

Kolo Toure is said to be looking forward to the challenge of fighting for a place in City’s starting XI when his six month ban comes to an end later this month. The Ivorian failed a drugs test back in March when he was found to have taken Bendroflumethiazide, an ingredient he claimed to be unaware of in the dieting pills he had been taking. With his sentence almost over, Toure insists he is ready to return to first team action, only with a renewed perception of the game thanks to his time away: “Sometimes when you come every day to training you can't realise how big it is to be a footballer,” he told ESPN. “I just realised how lucky [we are] to be footballers and be able to play for a football team like City.”
