Man City news - Onuoha joins first team, Inter: Tevez never an option, Cook investigation ongoing

By Luke Ricketts

Wednesday 07 September 2011

Onuoha joins first team.

Nedum Onuoha has been called back into the fray of Manchester City’s first team by manager Roberto Mancini according to the Guardian. The 24-year-old was initially excluded from Mancini’s squad selection and has been forced to train with the youth team, yet it appears the Italian has had a change of heart in light of recent controversies involving the player and City’s chief executive Garry Cook, who is at the centre of allegations that a scornful email was sent to the cancer-stricken mother of the player. Onuoha, who went on loan to Sunderland last season, is hopeful he can still make a name for himself with City despite the stiff competition and may be included in the squad that faces Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

Inter: Tevez never an option.

Inter have said Carlos Tevez was never a realistic transfer target because of his high price-tag. The Argentine was linked with a move to the Milanese club during the summer after the player admitted back in July that he was no longer happy living in England. Yet Inter’s sporting director Marco Branca has denied any such interest was made because the club were never in a position to meet City’s steep asking price. He told Sport Mediaset: “Tevez has never been a possible purchase. City always valued him at €45million (£40m).”

Cook investigation ongoing.

Reports in the Mirror suggest there may not be closure to the Garry Cook investigation until the CEO returns to Britain early next week. The mother of Nedum Onuoha has accused Cook of sending her an email mocking her illness with cancer, though he denies sending any such message and claims his account must have been hacked. Man City’s Abu Dhabi owners are taking the accusations very seriously but cannot come to any real resolve until his return. Cook’s career with City already has blemishes of previous disputes including the firing of Mark Hughes but the latest accusations could cost him his career with the Citizens if proven genuine.
