Man City news - Aguero had Messi talks, City prepare for Napoli challenge, Cook replacement sought

By Luke Ricketts

Wednesday 14 September 2011

Aguero had Messi talks.

City’s £36m signing Sergio Aguero consulted Lionel Messi before joining Manchester City the Daily Star has revealed.

The Argentine spoke to his fellow countryman before agreeing to move to England over the summer, saying he would have a much better chance of winning silverware with the Manchester club. The 23-year-old striker has already scored six times for City with the hat-trick he got against Wigan at the weekend and has admitted his greatest ambition is to surpass his friend Messi and become the best player in the world. He told the Guardian: “There's no doubt Messi is currently the best player in the world. But it is my dream too to reach such a level so I can say, ‘Yes, I am the best player in the world’.”

City prepare for Napoli challenge.

Manchester City will make their debut in the Champions League this evening when they welcome Serie A’s Napoli to the Etihad stadium.

City also share Group A with Bayern Munich and Valencia in what is already being considered as one of the more challenging of the eight groups to progress from. The Blues have shown they mean business already this season having made a bright start to their Premier League campaign, which has only been bettered by Manchester United on goal difference. This may be the club’s first time out in Europe’s most prestigious football tournament but they are expected to do go far in this year’s competition with the likes of Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko spearheading the attack of the star-studded squad.

Cook replacement sought.

Man City have began their search for Garry Cook’s replacement after the club’s former chief executive was forced to resign over a scandalous email he allegedly sent to Nedum Onuoha’s cancer-stricken mother. The vacancy is, unsurprisingly, one of the best paid executive positions in the country and earned Cook £1.821 million last year according figures published in the Guardian. Former Man United and Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon has been closely linked with the vacancy along with John Williams who joined City back in June after chairing Blackburn Rovers for 13 years.
