Wenger hints at permanant Benayoun deal

By Luke Ricketts

Friday 16 September 2011

Arsene Wenger has suggested to the Daily Mail that he would like to sign Yossi Benayoun on a permanent basis after his loan spell is up at the end of the season.

The Israeli midfielder was one of five quick-fire signings in the final week of the transfer window but the 31-year-old has wasted no time settling in and racked up 90 minutes for his new employers against Borussia Dormund in the week.

'It's too early to say at the moment (whether we will sign him), but I don't rule it out,”said Wenger. “Benayoun gives his best every time he plays and we think he can integrate well. He can play on both flanks. He can play in the middle, although I think he prefers to play on the wing.”

He and other new signing Mikel Arteta are arguably the most obvious replacements for the departed Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri and are expected to travel to Lancashire to face Blackburn on Saturday.
