Chelsea striker Sturridge eyes England call-up

By Tim Doel

Monday 17 October 2011

Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge is not expecting a call-up by Fabio Capello for next summer's European Championships, but will work nonetheless to convince the Italian that he is worthy of a squad place.

Sturridge, 22, has successfully established himself in the Chelsea first-team squad this season, netting an impressive four goals in four Premier League starts, more than any other Blues forward. And after also impressing with the England Under-21 squad, he now is looking to the senior squad:

"I can't think I'm going to get in there or think I'm going to be selected because I haven't been selected for any of the squads yet," he told the Daily Mail. "I'd never be stupid enough to assume I'm going to be one of the guys who's starting in the Euros. You always want to play for the national team. But I've not had a cap yet and I can't assume I'm going to get one. I've got to work as hard as I can to actually get one… I'm going to make sure my form's good enough and I'm going to make sure I can do all I can to get into the team."
