Pulis speaks on Stoke footballing philosophy

By Bryan Waters

Friday 04 November 2011

Stoke City manager Tony Pulis has spoken about his footballing philosophy and how he adapts the way he coaches to the players at his disposal.

Pulis has worked wonders at the Britannia Stadium, taking the Potters from the Football League to the Europa League, and turned them into a formidable opponent against anybody. The Stoke boss believes that the best quality a manager can hold is the ability to get the best out of the players they work with and teaches his teams on the fundamentals of winning.

The 56 year old said: ‘I’ve always built a solid base in the centre of the team with respect to winning games. I think as a manager you have to do that. It’s a results industry and if you don’t win games, then you don’t stay in your job.

‘If you are working at Bournemouth or Gillingham, as I did, and you haven’t got those technically gifted players, then you play to the players’ strengths. I think that is a great strength of a manager, knowing what strengths and depths of talent you are working with and then trying to get results from that base’, Pulis added.
