Pulis: Premier League survival is the main objective

By Bryan Waters

Friday 04 November 2011

Stoke City manager Tony Pulis has revealed that the club’s main objective at the start of the season is to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

The Potters were promoted into the top flight in 2008 and are currently in their fourth consecutive season in the Premier League. Pulis’ side have built since that promotion and are not only competing well in the league, but on a continental front in the Europa League.

Pulis believes that the money received from staying in the league is enormous and allowed the hierarchy to build the football club to what it is today. The Stoke boss has also been keen to emphasise the role the owners of the club have played in their survival.

‘The one thing we have to realise is that the Barclays Premier League is that golden egg. The money that you receive from staying in the Premier League is enormous. It enables you to build your football club. The Coates family have helped enormously, but we have also earned a lot of money from staying in the Premier League’, Pulis said.
