Swansea sign Sigurdsson on loan

By James McLean

Monday 02 January 2012

Swansea have completed the signing of Icelandic midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson on loan from German outfit Hoffenheim. The lanky 21-year-old will remain at the Swans for the remainder of the current campaign, according to BBC Sport.

The 6ft 1in plied his trade at Reading for three seasons prior to moving to Germany. He has struggled for first team opportunities in Germany this season, and was heavily rumoured to return to the Madjeski before Brendan Rogers’ offer to join him at the Liberty Stadium. He made his Royals debut under then-boss Rogers, and so the pair are familiar with each other’s work.

Hoffenheim manager Ernst Tanner told the club’s official website: “Gylfi missed the summer and most of our preparations due to injury. We hope that through this loan he will get some much needed match practice and get back to his former strength.”
