Wolves skipper Johnson: Eight more wins for Premier League survival
Wolves captain Roger Johnson has set his side the target of eight more victories in order to secure Premier League survival, according to Express & Star. The club are currently two points clear of the relegation zone ahead of this afternoon’s hosting of Chelsea, but ex-Birmingham defender Johnson believes that it will take a big effort to guarantee top-flight football next term, with his side having won just four matches thus far this term.
Johnson said: “We might need about eight wins from our last 19 games and we’ve got to start winning,” said Johnson. We’ve had a few draws now and just need to get a few clean sheets and a few wins. These draws can be a platform. It was a great draw at Arsenal and maybe we could’ve taken three points against Bolton, but we didn’t get beaten.”
He also believes that the capture of Arsenal’s Emmanuel Frimpong on loan until the end of the season is a signal of Wolves’ ambitions. Frimpong becomes Wolves’ second January signing along with £600,000 capture Eggert Jonsson, and Johnson is pleased to see unity among management at Molineux, saying: “Frimpong wants to play games and he chose us and it’s good the board has backed the manager and brought him in. I’ve had one day’s training with Eggert and have seen Frimpong play for Arsenal but we’ll see how they go!”
