Drogba close to Chelsea exit as Shanghai links increase

By Tim Doel

Thursday 19 January 2012

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba could be about to join Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua, linking up with former Blues teamate Nicolas Anelka, according to the club owner Zhu Jun.

Drogba has been unable to find agreement with Chelsea over a new contract, and has been linked continually with a Stamford Bridge exit. It is thought the Ivory Coast international is looking for a longer term contract, but Chelsea are only willing to extend his deal by one year.

Zhu Jun, the owner of Shanghai Shenhua, is quoted in the Telegraph as saying in reference to the rumours: "It's like flirting with a girl. Perhaps she will resist you at first, but if you continue to ask her out, it always ends well. Never give up."

33-year-old Drogba has scored three league goals this season, in 15 appearances, and is now away on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.
