Redknapp tells Mancini he must deliver

By Bryan Waters

Sunday 22 January 2012

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has told Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini that he has to deliver trophies this season or face the possibility of being sacked, The Mirror reports. Spurs travel to the Etihad Stadium this lunchtime in a huge clash at the top of the table with City.

Redknapp and Mancini have been embroiled in a war of words in the week leading up to today's clash and the Spurs boss had previously said that the City manager has the easiest job with the spending power at his disposal. Redknapp has now cranked the pressure up further by claiming that the City bosses will not tolerate a season without a trophy and Mancini will have to give them a trophy this season.

The Spurs boss said: 'The sheikh and the club’s supporters expect Mancini to deliver and if they don’t win the Premier League title who is to say they won’t sack him and bring in someone who can? Personally, I quite like Mancini and I certainly don’t blame him for spending the money he has. I would if I was in his position. But you have to accept that with it comes pressure and rising expectations.'

On-loan signing Emmanuel Adebayor is ineligible to play against his parent club today, so Jermain Defoe starts up front at the Etihad Stadium today. Captain Ledley King is back fit after six weeks with injury and will be in the Spurs side to face City's wealth of attacking talent, which Redknapp admitted he was envious of.
