Tottenham boss Redknapp unhappy with Man City striker Balotelli

By Bryan Waters

Monday 23 January 2012

Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli should have been dismissed for a stamp on Tottenham midfielder Scott Parker, according to Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, BBC Sport reports. Balotelli went on to score the winning penalty as Spurs lost 3-2 in the last minute at the Etihad Stadium.

The 21 year old had already been booked before his collision with Parker, but the incident went unpunished by referee Howard Webb. Balotelli appeared to move his right foot into the England international's head and Redknapp was furious that the stamp was not spotted by Webb. Spurs are now eight points behind the Premier League leaders thanks to Balotelli's late winning penalty and Redknapp was raging at why the Italian was even on the pitch.

Redknapp said: 'Having looked at it, I do think he should have been sent off. The first one could have been an accident, but on the second one, he's backheeled him straight in the head. It is not the first time he has done that and I am sure it won't be the last. I am the last person to talk about getting people sent off and what they should and shouldn't do. But it is blatant. He reacts to challenges like that at times. Scott has got a cut on his head.'

The Spurs boss also stated that it was up to Balotelli's manager Roberto Mancini to deal with the fiery Italian and Redknapp was puzzled at why Balotelli would want to kick someone in the head. City defender Joleon Lescott was also in the headlines for what looked like an elbow to Spurs centre-back Younes Kaboul, but Redknapp did not comment.
