Man Utd turn attention back to £50m Modric

By Andy Brunning

Monday 23 January 2012

Manchester United are set to launch an audacious £50 million bid to lure Tottenham’s Luka Modric to Old Trafford in the summer, reports The Mail, as they struggle to find a successor to Paul Scholes.

The 26-year-old Croatian playmaker, courted by Chelsea last summer, has helped Spurs to a lofty third place in the league, but United will hope that his head will be turned by the prospect of guaranteed Champions League football season on season. United had targeted Wesley Sneijder as the natural replacement for Paul Scholes, but baulked at his £250,000 a week wage demands.

Modric would represent considerably better value for the Manchester club; currently earning £60,000 a week at Tottenham, United could offer to double his wages and still see him earning considerably less than the club’s highest earners.

I don't think Man Utd will squander 50M on Modric as Cleverley is recuperating and Carrick will be as good as Modric soon. Man Utd just need two more defenders and a striker.
