Dos Santos nightmare at Spurs coming to a close

By Bryan Waters

Wednesday 25 January 2012

Mexican forward Giovani Dos Santos looks set to end his nightmare spell at Tottenham as Spanish sides Villarreal and Granada claimed they are negotiating with Spurs, The Mirror reports. Dos Santos has failed to break into the first team at White Hart Lane on a regular basis and is looking for a move.

Spurs signed Dos Santos from Barcelona four years ago, but the forward has failed to make any noticeable impact at White Hart Lane and has been on loan at Galatasaray, Racing Santander and Ipswich in recent seasons. Dos Santos has only made 15 starts in his Tottenham career and is not in Harry Redknapp's long-term plans. The Mexican is keen to move away from North London and fancies a move to Spain. At international level, the 22 year old has enjoyed success and came runner up in the Young Player of the Tournament award for the 2010 World Cup, but his form at Spurs has not replicated.

Villarreal is said to be Dos Santos' preferred destination, despite their poor form so far this season, and Yellow Submarine president Jose Manuel Llaneza has openly declared the interest. Llaneza said: 'The negotiations are going well and it seems the player wants to come to Villarreal.' Granada have opposed the views of Llaneza with president Quique Pina claiming that his side are the only club from Spain to make a formal offer for Dos Santos.

Pina said: 'We are the only Spanish club that has made a formal offer for him but we are running out of days before the end of the transfer window and it could be that another club will come in tomorrow with more money. We are in a good position over Giovani so long as another club does not get involved. It's logical that the player wants to play for more important clubs but if there isn't a better offer it will be difficult for him to go to another club.'
