Tottenham face fight to sign Damaio
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is still desperate to sign Internacional striker Leandro Damaio, but faces competition from two of Europe's wealthy sides, The Telegraph reports. French side Paris Saint Germain and Spanish club Malaga are interested in the 22 year old and have the money to back up their desire.
Spurs have a long interest in Damaio and tried to sign the Brazil forward in the summer transfer window, but saw their approach rebuffed. Internacional rate Damaio at £22m, which Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is unwilling to pay. Interest from PSG and Malaga may force Levy's hand to pay big money for the highly rated 22 year old. PSG had tried for Alexandre Pato, but were denied and are now desperate to sign his Brazilian teammate.
Emmanuel Adebayor is currently on loan from Manchester City at White Hart Lane, but his wages are proving difficult to pay and he would have to take a pay cut to stay with Tottenham. Spurs have a good working relationship with Internactional after their signing of Sandro and will hope that Damaio will be interested in a move to England, where he could be playing Champions League football next season.
Spurs delegates have been to Brazil to meet with the club and the striker, but feel that the transfer fee is too high and they want to negotiate to around £15m. Damaio has made four appearances for Brazil and helped Internacional win the Copa Libertadores and the Latin American Champions League. The 22 year old is expected to be part of Brazil's Olympic squad for the 2012 games in London and Tottenham will speak to him again, if they cannot seal a January move.
