Mandzukic interests Spurs boss Redknapp

By Bryan Waters

Sunday 29 January 2012

Harry Redknapp is looking to sign Wolfsburg striker Mario Mandzukic as the transfer deadline comes to a close, according to Metro. The Spurs boss is eager to bring in a couple of players before Tuesday to keep his side's title race alive and sees the Wolfsburg man as a good player.

The German side are expecting an offer from Spurs for Mandzukic and will review the deal before accepting or declining the offer. Wolfsburg boss Felix Magath is willing to sell the Croatian international, who has scored eight goals in 17 appearances so far this season. Mandzukic has been on Tottenham's radar for some time and the Spurs boss is looking to state his intentions by making a late move.

Spurs may have run out of time to do a deal and Redknapp has admitted that despite his interest in players, the club may not secure signings in January. Internacional striker Leandro Damaio and Blackburn defender Chris Samba have also been touted by Spurs, but Redknapp has seemingly dismissed any moves.

Redknapp said: 'I can't see an awful lot happening. I will probably watch a game on Sunday but not with a real eye on anyone, although I'm not going to tell you which match. There's a couple of players that we like but you're not going to get them in at this stage. It's difficult. I doubt we'll really do anything now'.
