Tottenham target £8m Adebayor January deal
Tottenham have opened talks with Manchester City about making the transfer of loanee Emmanuel Adebayor permanent, according to The Mail.
Togo international Adebayor, 27, has impressed for Spurs this season, scoring 9 goals and providing 7 assists in 19 appearances since joining in August on a season long loan. According to reports, the frontman has been impressive enough to persuade chairman Daniel Levy to bend his wage structure to retain his services.
The striker’s current wages at Manchester City are £170,000, of which Tottenham pay 50% as part of the loan agreement. The high wages were thought to be a stumbling block for any permanent deal, as the wage ceiling at the North London club is around £75,000. However, Levy is willing to offer Adebayor £100,000 in a bid to persuade him to stay, and has tabled an £8 million offer with Manchester City. Adebayor cost City £25 million from Arsenal in 2009, but only spent two mixed seasons at the club before a loan spell at Real Madrid last year.
