Nelsen set to complete Tottenham move

By Andy Brunning

Wednesday 01 February 2012

Blackburn defender Ryan Nelsen is expected to shortly complete a move to Tottenham Hotspur, reports BBC Sport.

New Zealand internation Nelsen, 34, has been at Blackburn since 2005, and made 172 appearances for the club. However, recently he has suffered a recurring knee injury, which has limited him to just one appearance this season, and saw him lose the club captaincy to Chris Samba. He has spent much of his season on the sidelines consulting with medical experts in New Zealand in a bid to rid himself of the injury.

Nelsen’s agent stated, “We’re just awaiting clearance - it all unfolded quickly. Harry Redknapp has always been a big fan of Ryan, and when the opportunity came, it really played itself out.”

The deal is initially for six months, with an optional extension of one year available. It also allows wantaway defender Sebastian Bassong to complete a loan deal to Wolves until the end of the season, after a potential deadline day move to QPR fell through.
