Bale watched seven times by Barcelona scouts

By Bryan Waters

Saturday 04 February 2012

Tottenham winger Gareth Bale has been scouted seven times by European club champions Barcelona and are desperate to bring the Welshman to Spain, The Mirror reports. Bale has emerged as one of Europe's best players and won the January player of the month award for the Premier League.

Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizaretta has spoken to Bale's representatives and wants to see if the club are willing to sell the 22 year old. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has insisted that the Welsh international is not for sale, despite the Spanish giants willingness to offer a fee of at least £40m. Barca have yet to reveal publicly that they want Bale, but they fear that the price may grow out of hand if they do not make a move in the summer.

Bale has been electrifiying for Spurs this season and the Spanish side could offer a player-plus-cash deal at the end of the season to secure the Welshman. The 22 year old is expected to be part of the Great Britain Olympic squad for London 2012 and Barca will look to seal the deal before the tournament starts. If Bale leaves White Hart Lane, then there are fears Luka Modric could quit the club.

Modric has been linked with Chelsea and Manchester United since summer bids were made, but the Croatian maintained that he would stay with the club unless Bale made a move. Spurs are still involved in the title race and a decision on Bale's future will be made in the summer. If the North Londoners get into the Champions League, Bale is expected to stay at the club, but failure to qualify could see the Welshman move to the Camp Nou.

The source for this story is not named in the Mirror {not much of a rag} but a reporter on the daily named Walters stated Modric will be gone in the summer and a reporter on the Sunday states Bale will be gone the following summer, neither states any proof for this, I believe this is all lazy journalism stating what they wish would happen rather than what will happen, massive guess-work backed-up by no truth, something they are only on a nodding acquatance with.
