Liverpool news - Reds Cole and Pav bids rejected, Torres wants new owners, Insua joins Galatasaray

By Mushtaq Quraishi

Wednesday 01 September 2010

Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Liverpool. Today:

Torres wants new owners.

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has reiterated the fact that the club need new owners quickly if they are to compete for trophies, according to ESPN. The Spanish forward is desperate to win a competition with his side, however a lack of financial backing from the American owners is stopping them from competing with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea for the Premier League title. Torres, whose Anfield future was in doubt this summer, believes the Reds still have a strong team but could do with some additions. He said "Hopefully we can find a consortium that buys the club and can make Liverpool able to fight financially with Chelsea and United. Then let's see what we're capable of doing this season. Liverpool kept Steven Gerrard which is fundamental. It's still a great team.”

Reds Cole and Pav bids rejected.

Roy Hodgson failed to sign Carlton Cole from West Ham on deadline day, despite offering two players in exchange. The former Fulham boss was willing to lose Lucas Leiva and Ryan Babel to the Hammers, in return for the England striker. However, the two named players did not have their hearts set on Upton Park according to the Guardian. Meanwhile, Hodgson’s attempt to reunite with Bobby Zamora also came to nothing. Similarly, Spurs striker Roman Pavlyuchenko also rejected a move to Anfield and Bayern Munich’s Mario Gomez did not even come close to joining the Reds, largely thanks to his £125,000 a week wage demands.

Insua joins Galatasaray.

Argentine full-back Emiliano Insua has joined Galatasaray on loan till the end of the season. The youngster was considered a bright talent by former boss Rafael Benitez and was the Reds first choice left-back last season. However, having failed to agree personal terms with Fiorentina earlier in the transfer window, Insua sealed a move to Turkey and his new club have an option to make the move permanent at the end of the deal. Roy Hodgson has replaced Insua with former Fulham man Paul Konchesky.

WE SERIOUSLY NEED NEW OWNERS ! HILLET AND HICKS CAN GO BYE ! BYE ! Hopefully the new owners can give us some funds to sign the likes of JUAN MATA, PATRICK HELMES and JAVI MARTINEZ as Lucas's replacement. Then, we can settle the problems in defence by signing Royston Drenthe. With the signing of Drenthe, Aurelio would be surplus to requirements. Therefore, we can now, put him up for sale. *Hopefully all this goes through in the next tranfer window.
