Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Manchester City. Today:
Shock inclusions in 25-man squad.
Man City announced their 25-man squad yesterday and the surprise inclusions are the forward pair of Jo and Roque Santa Cruz. They were thought to be on the exclusion list due to limited numbers at Eastlands, but the departures of Robinho to AC Milan, Felipe Caicedo to Levante on a season long loan and Craig Bellamy to Cardiff on a season long loan allow Jo and Santa Cruz to be part of the squad. Players under the age of 21 do not count towards the squad, so £24m new-boy Mario Balotelli does not have to be named in the squad. All of City’s summer signings are also included in the side.
Barry wants winter break.
Gareth Barry has joined up to the idea that English football should take a winter break like other European countries, the Daily Star reports. The Manchester City midfielder has admitted that the England squad were heavily fatigued and said: “To be competing at our peak in South Africa would have meant fresh players. If a winter break can help, that certainly needs to be looked at. In my personal opinion that is a massive thing.” In the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Switzerland, there are six City stars involved in the squad including Barry, goalkeeper Joe Hart, defender Joleon Lescott and midfielders Adam Johnson, James and Shaun Wright-Phillips.
Petrov’s parting shot.
Bolton Wanderers winger Martin Petrov has blasted his former side, claiming that there is no togetherness and cohesion at Eastlands, the Sun reports. The Bulgarian winger will feature in Bulgaria’s Euro 2012 qualifier against England on Friday night and on the eve of the fixture, he has lambasted his former side. Petrov said: “At the moment at City people are becoming more bad than good. The human relationships are lost and the trust is lost too. In this situation the players are going to play like millionaires in games and are not a team on the pitch. At City nothing is clear. The team are looking for identity.”
