Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Liverpool. Today:

Mascherano anger over lies.
Argentina captain Javier Mascherano has hit out at his former club Liverpool, over the lies which prompted his move away from Anfield. The defensive midfielder took a pay-cut to secure a dream move to Barcelona earlier this week, after a long drawn transfer saga. The Guardian reveals Mascherano’s feelings as he said: “They'd promised me something for a whole year and they never fulfilled their promise. And that didn't have anything to do with my family or anything else. When you read or hear lies, you obviously get angry." It was commonly thought on Merseyside that Mascherano wanted to move for family reasons. This is clearly not the case. Meanwhile, the midfielder also praised former boss Rafael Benitez for the impact the tactician had on his career.
Konchesky wants Reds glory.
New Liverpool left-back Paul Konchesky wants to win trophies with the Reds, claims the Daily Star. The former Fulham defender won a runners-up medal in the Europa League last season, but wants to better that achievement with his new club. Konchesky scored a brilliant goal against the Merseysiders in the 2006 FA Cup final and will be hoping to do that now in front of Reds fans. He said: “I want to win silverware and I believe this club is capable of doing that and hopefully we can start this year. I know what the manager is about and he knows what I am about and I had a great time with him at Fulham for two-and-a-half years.”
Reds name reduced 21-man squad.
Roy Hodgson has named a 21-man squad for the first half of the Premier League season. New squad rules say that clubs must include eight home-grown players in addition to a maximum of seventeen foreign players, summing up to a 25-man squad. However, the lack of strength in depth at Anfield was revealed when the Reds named only thirteen foreign players, leaving space for four more when it comes to the January window. Fortunately, Hodgson can supplement his squad with as many under-21 players as he wishes, meaning the likes of Jonjo Shelvey, David Ngog and Martin Kelly to name but a few will be able to compete.
