Tottenham news - Spurs beat Liverpool to Van der Vaart, Hutton wants permanent switch, Wright: Defoe as good as Villa
Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Tottenham. Today:

Spurs beat Liverpool to Van der Vaart.
Rafael Van der Vaart chose to join Tottenham over Liverpool, SkySports have revealed today. Until the final day of the transfer window it appeared the Dutch midfielder would remain with Real Madrid, after Liverpool fell short with their offer. The 27-year-old has revealed the Reds were the other side challenging for his services and not Bayern Munich who allegedly made a bid for the player.
Hutton wants permanent switch.
Spurs defender Alan Hutton is desperate to leave White Hart Lane after a loan spell with Sunderland at the end of last year. The Scot reportedly joined Tottenham for £9m in 2008 but has failed to secure a regular first team place. Hutton has said he no longer wants to be loaned to clubs and is hoping to join a team on a permanent transfer. He told the Sunday Mail: “I moved to Spurs for big money and, if I leave, the club will be wanting that.”
Wright: Defoe as good as Villa.
Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has said Jemain Defoe is as good as Spain’s David Villa after the Spurs forward smashed three past Bulgaria on Friday night. In his column for The Sun, Wright said: “There is talk about great strikers in Europe, including David Villa, but Jermain is as good.” Defoe was due to undergo surgery on his groin a week ago but opted to delay the operation in order to play in the European qualifier.
