Tuesday 14 September 2010
Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Arsenal. Today:

Injury latest.
Abou Diaby has joined Robin van Persie and co. on the Arsenal injury table following what looked a bad tackle from Bolton’s Paul Robinson, according to the Telegraph. The French defender was unable to train yesterday as he was still suffering from the ankle injury, which came from a studs-up challenge. Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott and van Persie remain relatively long-term absentees, and Diaby is expected to miss “at least the next two games” according to The Guardian. Thomas Vermaelen is expected to return from his Achilles injury for the Gunners’ Champions League opener against Braga, in what is sure to prove some relief for Arsene Wenger’s current injury headache.
Wenger: We can win Champions League.
Arsene Wenger has admitted he has suffered sleepless nights over Arsenal’s failure to capture a Champions League crown, reports the Guardian. He said: “It goes through your head if you have something important to do tomorrow. It goes through your head the day before a game and the day after a game. You want to do well for people who love the club. For the players, for the fans who love the club.” He now believes, however, that the Gunners possess the strength in depth and steely grit required to flourish in Europe’s top club competition. He continued: “We are equipped to win the Champions League. We have a good mixture of quality and more experience. You know when you see our team play that they are not tender anymore.”
Gunners want Jesus Navas.
Arsenal are the latest top club to join the race for coveted Sevilla and Spain winger Jesus Navas, reports Goal.com. Arsene Wenger is believed to be an admirer, and could be set to make a move in the January transfer window. The Gunners will need to do battle for his signature, however, with the likes of Chelsea, Real Madrid, Juventus and Barcelona also chasing the 24-year-old. One stumbling block, however, could be Rojiblancos’ reluctance to sell. The player does have a minimum fee release clause in his contract, but it is considered so sizeable that it is unlikely any club, with the exception of Man City, would be able to meet it. Navas himself has also expressed his pleasure at making the grade with Sevilla, but negotiations relating to a contract extension are yet to commence.
