Arsenal news - Gunners line-up Arteta, Navas priced at €25m, Shaqiri competition
Wednesday 15 September 2010
Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Arsenal. Today:

Gunners line-up Arteta.
Arsenal are believed to be in the hunt for Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta, reports talkSPORT. The move is being prepared as a contingency plan in case World Cup winning captain Cesc Fabregas does indeed move to his hometown club Barcelona in the future. Arsene Wenger has earmarked Arteta as a long-term replacement for Fabregas, but the Everton star only signed a new five year contract at Goodison Park last month after rumoured interest from both the Gunners and Manchester City in the summer. Toffees manager David Moyes is confident he can keep Arteta for the foreseeable future, but if Fabregas moves to the Catalan club Wenger is likely to have a large transfer budget at his disposal – and could make a move the Blues may find hard to refuse.
Navas priced at €25m.
Following yesterday’s reports that Arsenal are chasing Sevilla’s right winger Jesus Navas, the Rojiblancos have slapped a €25m price tag on the 24-year-old’s head for any buyers outside of Spain, according to Imscouting.com. The good news for the Gunners, however, is that this is thought to be some €5m lower than the initially expected asking price. Navas is moving into the final year of his contract at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, and with negotiations relating to an extension yet to take place, the Spaniards could be set to cash in on the highly-rated World Cup winner. He is also being chased by Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus.
Shaqiri Shaqiri.
Arsenal are facing stiff competition from Liverpool and Eredivisie outfit PSV for the signature of Swiss wonderkid Xherdan Shaqiri, according to Goal.com. The midfielder, who currently plays for FC Basel, is also a Swiss international, and scored his first goal for his country against England in the Euro 2012 qualifier which England won 3-1. His contract is due to expire in December 2011, but Basel may be keen to cash in. Hamburg are also thought to be interested in signing the 18-year-old.
