Top clubs chase Plymouth's Lecointe

Wednesday 12 October 2011

Plymouth Argyle’s young talent Matt Lecointe is being tracked by a number of top Premier League clubs, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 16 year old striker has played just 10 games for the troubled League Two side, starting twice, but he has already reportedly attracted the interest of scouts from Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United.

The teenager has been at the club since the age of eight, and became the club’s sixth-youngest ever player when he made his debut against Milwall in the Carling Cup earlier this season.

The player has been likened to Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who impressed as a teenager in the Football League at Southampton. It is likely the Pilgrims will seek a high fee for the youngster, similar to the £12m that Arsenal paid for Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Any move, and the size of any proposed fee, will of course be dependent on the apparently imminent takeover of the club, with Argyle mired in financial trouble for over a year.
