Parker hands in transfer request

By Tom Bowers

Tuesday 30 August 2011

West Ham star Scott Parker has opened the door for a deadline day switch to Tottenham after handing in a transfer request.

The midfielder was left out of the Hammers' 4-1 win at Nottingham Forest on Sunday and speculation has been rife that he is set for a switch to White Hart Lane.

The 30-year-old was named in Fabio Capello's squad for the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Wales and told the club's official website he is keen for a move to the Premier League to continue his inclusion in the national set-up: "The manager and board have tried hard to convince me to stay but at this stage in my career, I need to be playing in the Premier League, especially now that I am involved with England.

"I have had a fantastic four years at West Ham United and will never forget all the support I have had from the fans and everyone associated with the club.

"I hope the fans will understand and respect my decision and I wish the club every success in their fight for promotion this season."

A Spurs bid for Parker may also include starlet Jake Livermore going the other way on a season-long-loan to the Hammers.
