Barcelona midfielder interesting Liverpool and Anzhi

El Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona midfielder Seydou Keita is interesting both Liverpool and mega-rich Anzhi Makhachkala, with the Russian club prepared to pay up to €14m for the Mali international in the January transfer window.

Keita’s contract at the Camp Nou expires in June, 2012 and Anzhi club captain and current player/manager Roberto Carlos would like the 31-year-old to link up with former Barca teammate Samuel Eto’o, who was signed from Inter Milan in August. It is understood the Anzhi boss has already indicated to the club’s hierarchy he would like the former Lens and Sevilla player for next season.

Barca boss Pep Guardiola would like Keita to remain as part of his squad but could be receptive to any enquiry, particularly with the size of the fee involved given the player’s age and the fact he has only started five of the Catalan side’s 11 league games this term.

However, with Liverpool also believed to have contacted Barca about Keita’s availability, Anzhi are likely to make a bid for him in January as Anfield boss Kenny Dalglish had pencilled him in for next season. The Merseysiders saw their midfield weakened by the loss of Raul Meireles in a €13m move to Chelsea at the start of the season and see the powerful African as a direct replacement.
