Llorente a doubt for Costa Rica friendly

By David Redshaw

Tuesday 15 November 2011

Fernando Llorente has been forced to pull out of Spain’s final training session before the friendly with Costa Rica after suffering some discomfort in a knee, and the Athletic Bilbao striker is now doubtful for the game.

Boss Vicente del Bosque revealed the 26-year-old was due to share the main striking duties over the 90 minutes with Fernando Torres, but the Chelsea man could now get the nod if Llorente is ruled out. On the other hand, David Silva and Cesc Fabregas will also be pushing for a place and if either is selected then Spain will play without a recognised No 9. However, the Spanish team doctor insists Llorente is prepared to play despite the injury, although the final decision will rest with Del Bosque.

Before training, which lasted around an hour in the Estadio Nacional, the Coach hinted at a starting XI that might show four changes from the team beaten 1-0 by England at Wembley on Saturday. Those expected to play against Costa Rica are: Casillas, Arbeloa, Albiol, Puyol, Monreal, Xabi Alonso, Busquets, Iniesta, Navas, Villa and Llorente (or Torres).
