Málaga in €30m Thiago bid
Wednesday 01 February 2012
Moneybags Málaga are believed to have made a €30m bid for Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcántara, according to reports in the Spanish Press.
Local journalist Juanje Fernández, who has close ties to the Costa del Sol club, says the player’s father Mazinho, a former Brazil international, visited Málaga last Sunday and suggested he had repeatedly threatened to take his son away from the Catalan giants.
However, the same reporter makes it clear that Thiago was unlikely to be interested in a move to southern Spain, although he would become the highest paid player in Manuel Pellegrini’s squad and the €30m offer could well test Barca’s resolve.
Thiago is a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy and despite being born in Italy to Brazilian parents made his first appearance for Spain’s senior squad in a friendly with Italy last August.
The 20-year-old has made 16 league appearances for Pep Guardiola’s team this term, starting in 10 of them, and scored one goal in the opening day 5-0 defeat of Villarreal.
