Cristiano Ronaldo eyeing Premier League return
A report in the Daily Express over the weekend suggests Cristiano Ronaldo could be set to make an astonishing return to the Premier League after becoming disillusioned with life at Real Madrid.
The 27-year-old is understood to be unhappy at being jeered by a section of Madrid fans and having his attitude questioned in some games earlier this season, culminating in his non-celebration when scoring in a recent 5-1 defeat of Granada at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Despite his 24 goals this term some supporters have even whistled when he has lined up to take free-kicks, calling for other players to take over after his few successes from dead balls over the past couple of months. Ronaldo has also been criticised in the Spanish capital for his performances in Los Clásicos, leading him to explore the possibility of a move back to England where he feels he is better appreciated. An added complication for Los Blancos is the fact it is looking increasingly likely that José Mourinho will depart during the summer.
Manchester United are clear favourites for Ronaldo’s signature if he does decides to abandon La Liga, but having signed for Madrid in June, 2009 for €96m the fee demanded by club President Florentino Pérez, should he allow him to leave, could be prohibitive even for a club of United’s standing.
Ronaldo has a good personal relationship with Reds’ boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who he regards as something of a father figure, but Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain could also enter the equation.
