Getafe capture Sevilla defender on loan
Getafe have been granted permission to sign defender Alexis Ruano on loan from Sevilla after Alberto Lopo’s broken arm against Espanyol last weekend left Los Azulones struggling to put out a back four against Real Betis this Saturday.
The Madrid-based club had sought permission from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to bring in an emergency replacement outside the winter transfer market, Lopo’s fellow centre-back Rafa López also being sidelined long-term.
According to Sevilla’s official website Getafe will assume part of the player’s wages with the Andalucians paying the remainder as the 26-year-old returns to the club he spent the 2006-07 season with after signing from Málaga in a deal worth €2.5m. His subsequent form for El Geta, where he helped the club to a Copa del Rey final against Sevilla, earned him a €6.5m move to Valencia the following term and after three years at the Mestalla he joined Sevilla in August, 2010 for €5m.
However, Alexis has since struggled to make an impact at the Sánchez Pizjuán, making just 21 league appearances last season and only one this campaign, and will be looking to get a career back on track that brought him three Spanish Under-21 international caps.
