Inter ready to bid for Barca winger

Saturday 07 April 2012

A report in La Stampa < claims Inter Milan are ready with an offer for Barcelona winger Ibrahim Afellay.

The Serie A club were keen to sign the Dutch international before his move from PSV Eindhoven to the Camp Nou in January, 2011 and are set to revive their interest in the player. Afellay, 26, is in the final stages of recovery from a cruciate ligament injury that has kept him on the sidelines since last September, during which time he has seen the likes of Thiago Alcántara, Cristian Tello and Isaac Cuenca all impress after getting their chance in Pep Guardiola’s starting line-up.

Consequently, Afellay could find his way back into the first team a little more difficult than when he suffered his injury, something Inter are aware of, and they will monitor his progress until the end of the season.

The report alleges the Italians would be prepared to pay up to €8m to secure Afellay’s services, a figure that would represent a healthy profit on the €3m Barca paid for him, but Inter see him as somebody who could easily adapt to their system of play, whether it be 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1.
