Bayern right-back interesting Mourinho

Wednesday 11 April 2012

Real Madrid boss José Mourinho has added Bayern Munich’s Rafinha to a list of possible candidates to solve his problematic right-back spot for next season.

Tuttomercato reports that Mourinho has not been convinced by recent experiments that have seen both Lass Diarra and Hamit Altintop stake a claim for the role, while the decision to permanently move regular incumbent Sergio Ramos into central defence has left Álvaro Arbeloa as the only recognised right-hand side defender in his squad

A lack of talent emerging from the club’s academy has forced the Portuguese to draw up a list of possible signings and Brazilian defender Rafinha, 27, is the latest player to come under scrutiny.

The former Genoa and Schalke man, real name Marcio Rafael Ferreira, has featured in 31 official matches with Bayern this season but has recently lost his place in the team, with boss Jupp Heynckes preferring to pick Austrian international David Alaba at left-back and move captain Philipp Lamm over to the right.

Rafinha’s contract with the Bavarians runs until June, 2014 but club President Uli Hoeness may be prepared to let him go if the Spanish giants are willing to pay a fee of around €8m.
