Barca announce summer pre-season plans

Wednesday 11 April 2012

Barcelona have announced via the club’s official website that they will be preparing for the 2012-13 season by staying in Europe.

The decision has been made after Barca acknowledged that this summer will be a busy one for quite a few of their players, many of whom will be representing Spain in Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine and also the London Olympics.

In recent years the World and European Champions have embarked on lucrative tours of Asia and the United States, but they will now play four or five friendlies in Europe that are still to be organised, and a statement read:

“The club considers it necessary that this summer’s pre-season needs a special format which will combine time spent locally with friendlies in Europe. The aim is to counterbalance the accumulation of games over the last few seasons and take into account the extra effort needed for the European Championships and Olympic games.

“FC Barcelona would like to express their thanks to all their fans around the world who have been looking forward to the team visiting and assure them that the club remains committed to further international tours in coming years."
