Real Betis are ready to make Carlos Vela one of their main transfer targets this summer, according to Diario de Sevilla.

The Arsenal midfielder has spent this season on loan at Real Sociedad, where he has been a revelation in La Liga with 10 goals from 30 league appearances, and Betis director of football Vlada Stosic is already thought to have been in contact with his representatives. However, the Andalusians may face stiff competition from Sociedad themselves with the Basques understood to be ready to make the Gunners an offer for the Mexican international, something his agent is already aware of.

A starting price of around €2m is being suggested, although Arsenal may hold out for more money for a for a player who joined them as a17-year-old in 2005 but has never really established himself in Arsene Wenger’s plans, having also been loaned out to Celta Vigo, Salamanca, Osasuna and West Bromwich Albion during that time.

Vela, who has Spanish nationality, has earned rave reviews because of his versatility this term, with boss Philippe Montanier using him on both wings and also down the middle as an extra striker, and Los Beticos see him as a possible alternative to on-loan Ecuador international Jefferson Montero, who is due to return to Villarreal at the end of the season.
