By David Redshaw

Thursday 19 April 2012

Schalke have announced that veteran striker Raul Gonzalez will leave the Bundesliga club at the end of the season when his two-year contract expires.

El Mundo Deportivo says Schalke had made the 34-year-old former Real Madrid and Spain captain an offer to stay but the club said on Thursday he has decided to leave.

The Gelsenkirchen club say Raul plans to explain his future plans and reasons for leaving at a Press conference on Thursday, with reports he could even extend his career in China, Qatar or Dubai.

Raul has established himself as a fans’ favourite at the Veltins Arena after joining the German outfit in July, 2010, scoring 13 goals in his first season with two hat-tricks, while he has also won both the German Cup and Supercopa as well as reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League.
