Barcelona want Fernando Llorente

Tuesday 01 May 2012

According to Sport, Barcelona want Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente to reinforce their attacking options for next season.

David Villa’s long-term injury has left Pep Guardiola’s side without a recognised out-and-out striker this season, recent disappointing displays against Real Madrid and Chelsea bringing home the fact that a Plan B is sometimes possibly needed when Barca’s famous possession football fails to break down a stubborn defence.

Spanish international Llorente, 27, certainly fits the profile in the absence of what could be termed an old-fashioned type centre-forward, particularly since the club allowed Samuel Eto’o and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to move on.

The Bilbao man forms part of a list of priorities for the Catalan outfit that includes a central defender and a left-back, and has already been the subject of interest from Real Madrid and the Premier League this season

Llorente, who has notched 16 league goals from 30 appearances, has also been instrumental in the Basques’ march to the final of both the Copa del Rey and Europa League.
