Michel's Sevilla future in doubt

Tuesday 08 May 2012

With just one game of the season remaining it is still unclear if Michel will continue as Sevilla Coach or the club will appoint a new man in the summer.

A report in AS suggests club President Jose Maria Del Nido and director of football Monchi have not yet decided who will be in charge at the Sánchez Pizjuán next season, with former Coach and current Real Mallorca boss Joaquin Caparros being touted for a possible return to the club he served between 2000 and 2005.

Michel, who took over from the axed Marcelino last February, has a clause in his contract stating he will automatically be appointed on a permanent basis should Los Nervionenses qualify for the Champions League.

However, not even a place in the Europa League is now a possibility and Michel’s only hope of landing the job is if Del Nido chooses to stick with him, although it is believed Monchi is inclined to look elsewhere; if Caparros cannot be tempted back then there could be a surprise move for Quique Sanchez Flores.

The former Atletico Madrid boss has been with Dubai’s Al-Ahli since November, 2011 and is easily affordable, although in the last home game of the season Sevilla fans continually chanted Caparros’ name and the locally-born 56-year-old may welcome a return to Andalusia.
