Dortmund deny Madrid defender bid

Borussia Dortmund have denied Real Madrid have made a bid for defender Lukasz Piszczek, according to Diario de Leon.

Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is looking to strengthen the right-hand side of his defence and although the Spanish giants have been strongly linked with Piszczek in recent weeks, the German club’s director of football Michael Zorc insists there has been no contact.

“There has been no offer from Real Madrid or even Rewe (a German supermarket chain),” maintained Zorc. “I can say that Pisczek will definitely be at our club for another year.”

However, other sources have suggested Madrid have been involved in negotiations for the 26-year-old over the past few weeks with a price of €10m being mentioned.

The Polish international appears to fit the profile of the kind of player Mourinho would like to share the right full-back duties with Alvaro Arbeloa, being fast and aggressive whilst also strong in the air.

Piszcek signed for Borussia from Hertha Berlin in May, 2010 having spent three years on loan at Polish club Zaglebie Lubin, where surprisingly he was utilised as a left-winger and was implicated in a match-fixing scandal during the 2005-06 season.

His team was charged with rigging a match against Wisla with Piszcek also charged and convicted of having been involved in illegal payments, for which he received a three-year suspended sentence and a €25,000 fine.
