Bale wants Barcelona move

Friday 11 May 2012

Gareth Bale is desperate to sign for Barcelona but his club Tottenham Hotspur have indicated they are unwilling to sell the Welsh international.

A report in El Mundo Deportivo claims Barca, or any other club, will be told the 22-year-old left-back will not be allowed to leave White Hart Lane this summer.

It is a scenario similar to that of Cesc Fabregas’ protracted move from Arsenal to the Catalans, although on that occasion it had a happy ending with the player eventually ending up at the Camp Nou - but not before Barca were made to work hard for his signature.

The reports in Spain claim that Bale is understood to be crazy to be given the opportunity to line up alongside players such as Lionel Messi and Xavi Hernandez. However, given his club’s stance, and knowing the interest from the Spanish giants, he may have no option but to exert pressure on Spurs or lower his own pretensions so La Blaugrana can improve their offer, as did Alexis Sanchez when he left Udinese for Barcelona.

Manchester City are believed to be willing to pay around €50m for the player, but Barca have had their sights set on him for some time as Adriano is the only recognised left-hand sided defender at the club in the absence of Eric Abidal and Maxwell’s sale to Paris Saint-Germain in January.
