Malaga await UEFA inspection

With a Champions League place within touching distance Malaga are awaiting a UEFA inspection at La Rosaleda this Sunday.

The Costa del Sol club entertain Sporting Gijon on the final day of the season and a win will see Manuel Pellegrini’s men finish in fourth place, thus entering the qualifying rounds of Europe’s premier competition next season, while victory for Sporting would give them a chance of La Liga survival.

According to El Desmarque, European football’s governing body will place the Qatari-owned club under the microscope with a visit from one of their inspectors, who will analyse everything that happens during the game from an organisational and security level. The emissary wants to know if Malaga is capable of hosting Champions League or Europa League games next term.

However, Los Blanquiazules fear excess celebrations should they win, particularly with fans invading the pitch (something that has happened in recent years at the final home game), may harm their chances of creating a favourable impression.

A 29,000 full house is guaranteed for what is possibly the most important game in Malaga’s history, yet the club’s hierarchy will be biting their nails while hoping everything passes off smoothly so as not to receive a negative vote.
