Tuesday 12 June 2012

Real Madrid great Pahino has passed away aged 89 confirmed Real Madrid’s official website, sending Spanish Football into a sad state of mourning once again.

Manuel Fernández Fernández or more commonly known as Pahino was a true Real Madrid galatico before the term was even coined, having made his move to the Spanish Capital in 1948 from Celta Vigo, he would go on to make 144 appearances for the club – scoring 124 he boasted one of the best goal-scoring averages in Real Madrid history.

Representing his country on three occasions he continued his wonderful scoring habit by netting three goals for the Spanish national side between 1948 and 1955.

When his request for a three-year-contract at Real Madrid was denied he moved to Deportivo de La Coruna and scored 46 goals in just 72 appearances, firmly cementing his place as one of the greatest scorers in early Spanish football history.

Spanish football is still morning the sad loss of Manuel Preciado shortly before his Villarreal contract had started, and with Spain united in his sad passing – They will mourn Pahino too as a great.
