Pepe launches defence of Ronaldo

Thursday 14 June 2012

Real Madrid defender Pepe has weighed in to defend his teammate and countryman Cristiano Ronaldo, who wasted several chances for Portugal against Denmark.

“The best also miss chances,” said Pepe. “For me, Cristiano is the best in the world, and the best also miss chances. He is a human being and he can’t carry the whole weight of the national team on his shoulders,” he added.

In the wake of Portugal’s 3-2 defeat of Denmark in Group B, Pepe, who scored Portugal’s opener, was relieved to take some of the pressure off their upcoming meeting with the Netherlands.

“Now we can approach the game against the Netherlands at our leisure and play our own game,” he said.
