Benzema ´not for sale´ to Arsenal says Mourinho
Real Madrid Coach Jose Mourinho has rubbished suggestions that Karim Benzema is on the verge of moving away from the club. After seeing the 23-year-old score his fourth goal in pre-season against Leicester City, Mourinho confirmed the striker will stay at the Bernebeu this season: “There is no speculation. He is not for sale, no chance,” said the Portuguese.
Arsenal had been linked with a move for the French international as Arsene Wenger seeks to bolster the Gunners’ striking options, with Nicklas Bendtner set to join Sporting Lisbon. However, Mourinho has been impressed with Benzema’s form and attitude during the pre-season campaign: “Karim now thinks about football in the same way that I do,” Mourinho told Marca. “He has everything required to have a great campaign. He looks much better than he did this time last year. I think I have managed to convince him that my way is the best way.”
It completes a remarkable turnaround for Benzema who 12 months ago was criticised by the Madrid Coach for his laissez-faire attitude. The forward went on to score 26 goals for los Merengues last season and will be looking to improve on this total in the year ahead.
