Rayo Vallecano look to Premier League for reinforcements

Friday 19 August 2011

Reports in Spain suggest that Rayo Vallecano are closing in on the loan signings of Liverpool’s Dani Pacheco and Manchester City’s Roque Santa Cruz. Rayo are still looking to strengthen their squad after several key players from last season’s triumphant promotion campaign - including Jorge Andujar 'Coke', Oscar Trejo and Antonio Amaya - have now moved on to pastures new.

Paraguayan international Santa Cruz has failed to make an impact during an injury-ravaged spell at the Manchester club and spent the end of last season on loan at former team Blackburn Rovers. With the arrival of so many new faces at the Blues, chances of first team football have all but diminished for the 30-year-old. Rayo will be hoping he can regain the goal-scoring form he enjoyed in his earlier spells at Blackburn and Bayern Munich.

Ex-Barcelona youth player Pacheco has remained on the fringes of the Liverpool first team having made just five appearances in his time at Anfield. In March of this year he enjoyed a successful loan spell at Norwich but now craves regular first team football, something he cannot be guaranteed on Merseyside. The 20-year-old has enjoyed better success at international level and won the Golden Boot at the 2010 UEFA European Under-19 Championship after scoring four goals. Spain eventually lost 2-1 to France in the final.

Cash-strapped Rayo have already made several budget signings this summer but it is thought that President Raul Martin Presa is looking to bring in a couple of high profile loan players in an effort to bolster their chances of La Liga survival. He is expected to travel to England shortly to conclude the deals.
